After Rita Aldorino, an English as a Second Language teacher from Argentina, taught her students about mate, our interest in the drink was piqued here at Educational Partners International. We’ve been waiting for winter to try out the beverage, and along the way, we’ve learned a bit about its history, how to brew it, and how feasible it is to find the drink in the USA. Here’s what we discovered. Follow along and learn how to make mate!

A trio of teachers from Colombia led faculty and staff at Gregg Middle School in Summerville, South Carolina, through a nonstop class that was equal parts dance class and fitness workout. Science teacher Natali Sanchez started the session off, and special education teacher Adriana Benedetty taught the roughly two dozen participants to salsa. Then world languages teacher Sandy Ardila González introduced everyone to merengue.

As 2023 begins, we at Educational Partners International take this opportunity to wish the best for all of the teachers participating in our exchange program. They are engines of cultural exchange, and their hard work and dedication enrich the lives of their students and communities. We hope the 2022-2023 school year comes to a satisfying conclusion and that the rest of the year proves just as exciting and rewarding.

As exchange teachers, EPI Program Members bring not only their cultures to the American classroom, but also their unique perspectives and passions – a mantle that has been enthusiastically taken up by Milton Villarroel since coming to the USA from Bolivia. We talk to Villarroel about the importance of sustainable development education, as well as his most recent sustainability initiative, the Global Schools Program.

Every year dozens of Educational Partners International (EPI)’s exchange teachers receive awards and recognitions acknowledging their displayed commitment to excellence, with many even receiving their schools’ teacher of the year awards.
