Jamaican Art Teacher Leads Students to Soar in Aviation-Themed Contest
One of Coleen Bartley’s art students was a finalist in the 2022 North Carolina Aviation Art Contest, and two others were semifinalists. The students’ success is all the more remarkable given that the 2021-2022 school year was Bartley’s first with Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School. She came to Lillington, North Carolina, from Jamaica with Educational Partners International (EPI).

And now, it has led the music teacher to perform at one of the most celebrated music venues in the world: New York City’s Carnegie Hall. It is yet another highlight in a successful school year for the North Carolina elementary teacher, who came to the USA from Colombia as an Educational Partners International (EPI) program member.
International Teachers Create Spanish Event Where Students Shine
W.D. Williams Elementary School’s Dual Language Night allowed first-graders to show off all that they learned about Spanish and different cultures. The event at the Swannanoa, North Carolina, school also revealed the success of the language program, whose staff includes EPI teachers from several countries.
In Philippines, EPI Alumnus Shares Knowledge from USA
Special education teacher Noel Plazo held two days of seminars and workshops this past summer in the Philippines. Informing his insights were the experiences in the U.S. classroom he had as a program member with Educational Partners International (EPI). He became a program alumnus just one month before presenting at the Special Children Institute in Pasig City, and his participation represents the philosophy of cultural exchange underpinning EPI’s program.
