Teachers From Abroad Help EPI Colleagues with Work and Life in the USA

EPI’s Local Liaison program provides mentorship to support teachers new to the program. Whether someone needs help moving in, finding a social security office, or obtaining a driver’s license, Local Liaisons provide top-notch support. Made up of dedicated volunteers, Local Liaisons often express thanks for the help they themselves received when they were new to the program. Participation provides them a way to give back.

Alicea Bigby-Smart designs her classroom for her students’ success. Originally from Jamaica, the science teacher arrived in the USA in 2021 as an Educational Partners International program member. At Grier Middle School in Gastonia, North Carolina, she has transformed her class into a space that encourages learning among all of her students.

Yerba Mate: Brew Up a Taste of Argentina at Home

After Rita Aldorino, an English as a Second Language teacher from Argentina, taught her students about mate, our interest in the drink was piqued here at Educational Partners International. We’ve been waiting for winter to try out the beverage, and along the way, we’ve learned a bit about its history, how to brew it, and how feasible it is to find the drink in the USA. Colombian Teachers Get Staff Moving During Latin-Tinged Dance Workout

A trio of teachers from Colombia led faculty and staff at Gregg Middle School in Summerville, South Carolina, through a nonstop class that was equal parts dance class and fitness workout. Science teacher Natali Sanchez started the session off, and special education teacher Adriana Benedetty taught the roughly two dozen participants to salsa. Then world languages teacher Sandy Ardila González introduced everyone to merengue.

As 2023 begins, we at Educational Partners International take this opportunity to wish the best for all of the teachers participating in our exchange program. They are engines of cultural exchange, and their hard work and dedication enrich the lives of their students and communities. We hope the 2022-2023 school year comes to a satisfying conclusion and that the rest of the year proves just as exciting and rewarding.
